She states, “My design skills and my interest in patterns and textures are reflected in my approach. I enjoy layering different media to accomplish depth of tone and meaning.”

Brouwer got her bachelors degree from Lawrence University and her masters degree from Harvard University. She was a weaver for four years before becoming a graphic artist, working as an art director for several magazines. During the past eleven years she has devoted herself to painting - primarily in watermedia but also encaustics and collage. She currently resides in Seattle, Washington.
